Britney Spears sued by former bodyguard for negligence

A retired cop and aspiring screenwriter who worked as a bodyguard for Britney Spears is suing the pop star for at least $25,000 claiming her negligence caused him personal injury on the job.

Kerry M. Vine of Chatsworth, Calif., filed his lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday but did not disclose the exact injuries that allegedly took place in March 2008 beyond the claim that Spears' "extreme/outrageous conduct" caused him "severe emotional distress."

Spears failed "to ensure that he could safely perform duties that she ordered him to perform thereby resulting in physical injuries," the lawsuit alleged.

His lawyer declined comment when reached by the Daily News.

Vine also has two lawsuits pending in federal court in Los Angeles. One is against the Pasadena-Glendale-Burbank Airport Authority Police Department claiming that he was discriminated against when he applied for a job in September 2007.

Vine is African American and claims he got the brush-off after he reported an earlier worker's compensation claim that resulted from a knee injury suffered while he was an on-duty police officer in Richmond, Calif., in 1998.

He did not list the police department where he previously worked.

Vine also filed a lawsuit against Starz Entertainment and screenwriter Russell Gerwitz in March claiming his copyrighted 1998 screenplay "A Badge of Deception" about a serial killer cop is "strikingly similar" to Gerwitz's 2008 movie "Righteous Kill" starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

A woman who answered the phone at the security firm that employed Vine at the time of his tenure with Spears said she was aware of the lawsuit but could not comment.
